How to Verify an Online Casino License

A license badge is a lead, not a conclusion. Verify the regulator's register, the legal entity, the domain, the permitted activity, and the place a dispute actually goes.

The regulator's own register is more useful than a badge copied into a footer.

Start with the legal entity

Consumer brands and legal operators are not always named the same. Find the legal entity in the casino terms, footer, or account agreement. Then search that exact name in the regulator’s own register. A brand name alone can return the wrong business or no result at all.

Master license

Issued by a regulator (e.g. Curaçao) to a licensing company

Sub-license

That company licenses individual operators to use it

May be several steps removed from the regulator's own oversight

Your dispute has to travel back through however many of these layers actually take responsibility — that number isn’t always one.

Verify five fields

  1. Regulator: Is the claimed authority real and does it publish a searchable register?
  2. Entity: Does the legal name match the operator accepting your deposit?
  3. License number: Does the number resolve in the regulator’s record?
  4. Domain: Is the site or app domain listed, or is the badge being reused on a different property?
  5. Activity: Does the permission cover the kind of gambling service being offered to you?

Before you deposit

01

Find the license, KYC, withdrawal, and bonus sections.

02

Check

Match the license number to the regulator’s own registry.

03

Compare

Look for payout patterns and complaint themes across sources.

04

Decide

Only deposit what you can afford not to see again.

What the badge cannot guarantee

A license is not a guarantee of a particular withdrawal time, a winning result, or a perfect support experience. It should give you an identifiable authority, minimum standards, and a route for complaints or enforcement. The amount of practical protection depends on the regulator, the license type, the entity structure, and the rules that apply to your location.

Master licenses and sub-licenses need extra care

A master license can sit above a network of separately branded operators. The public-facing site may display the master brand while your account agreement names another entity. Read the terms, match the domain, and ask which company holds your funds and handles your complaint.

For a longer explanation of what a license can and cannot guarantee, read our license guide. Then compare the result with the operator’s withdrawal process and ownership disclosures.

Stop signs

  • The license number only exists in a graphic and cannot be found in a register.
  • The legal entity in the terms differs from the entity in the regulator search.
  • The regulator page is missing, broken, or does not list the domain.
  • The operator will not identify the complaint route.
  • The casino uses several different entity names across the footer, terms, and payment pages.

Does an offshore license mean a casino is fake?

No. It means you need to understand the regulator, the license type, the operator entity, and the practical complaint route. A license is evidence to verify, not a universal safety rating.

Can I verify a casino from the badge alone?

No. Open the regulator's own register and match the exact entity, license number, domain, status, and permitted activity.

What if the brand is not in the regulator's register?

Treat the claim as unresolved. Ask the operator to identify the legal entity and license record in writing, and do not deposit until the answer can be independently checked.
